At Doctors of BC, we make a meaningful difference in improving health care for British Columbians by working alongside our members to achieve quality patient care through engagement, collaboration, and physician leadership.
Legally operating as the British Columbia Medical Association, we are partners in progress - helping to make sure the voices of BC's doctors are heard by government, health authorities, media, and the public.
Our goal is to promote a social, economic, and political climate in which physician members can provide the citizens of British Columbia with the highest standard of health care, while achieving maximum professional satisfaction and fair economic reward. Learn about the steps we're taking towards achieving our mission in our Strategic Plan, which has been extended until 2018 by our Board of Directors.
We advocate for a fair health care system for all patients.
We are governed by a Board of Directors and a 104-member Representative Assembly comprised of physician members. Our President serves as primary spokesperson. In addition, Doctors of BC members contribute to over 60 committees that advocate for issues of importance to physicians and to the citizens of BC.
Doctors of BC was founded in 1900 as the British Columbia Medical Association, and has a long history of working for members, improving patient care, and influencing health care policy.
The Board of Directors is made up of physicians democratically elected by members from regions around the province. Directors set the strategic goals and priorities to meet the organization’s mission.
Our leadership team directs and guides Doctors of BC staff, working alongside the Board of Directors to support the strategic direction of the association.
